We have just been awarded the Young Carers in Schools Bronze award. This is a nationally recognised award given by the Young Carers Trust and the Childrens Society. This recognises the commitment our staff and governors have in ensuring that young carers within our school are identified and supported.
A young carers is someone who is aged 18 or under who helps look after a family member who has an illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction problem. Young carers can do a range of things from providing practical support around the house, helping to do the shopping/collect medication from the pharmacy, giving personal care to the family member, giving emotional support and so on.
Being a young carer can mean that school work and ability to spend time with friends can be affected.
If you think you are a young carer, or think you know someone who is, then you can speak to me, Grace, here at school.
