Year 6 WW1 poems

Year 6 have been busy writing quatrain poems, describing life in the trenches. The children were inspired after learning about the Battle of the Somme.

The children really captured the mood of soldiers waiting to go ‘over the top’.

This is just one of the many good stanzas written by the class.

Incoherent prayers muttered under biting breath

Distinctively, artillery fired around their heads

While courageous men raced to their death’
