Links with the Church
At St Andrew’s we are very lucky to have an extremely strong link with Walkden Methodist Church. As a Methodist school our Christian ethos is very distinctive. This link goes back many years and has evolved and grown stronger over time. As a Voluntary Controlled school the church is well represented with four church members currently on the governing body.
The church minister visits school on a regular basis to lead worship. Lay preachers also lead worship on occasion.
The Methodist Youth Worker visits school each week to lead worship. Many church members give up their time to work in school with our children on activities such as reading, knitting and gardening. The children love these special times and gain much from them.
VISITING OUR CHURCH
The church and school families come together to share and celebrate through worship. We are always made extremely welcome in Church and worship there at least once a term at Christmas, Easter and at the end of the school year. Harvest is traditionally celebrated in school during October.
Pupils are given the opportunity to lead activities in the church at key times in the church’s calendar. Year 5 pupils lead ‘Experience Easter’ and ‘Experience Pentecost’ events each spring for the other key stage two classes-
