‘Connected Toys’ – some safety considerations

With December fast approaching and a huge number of sales on toys hitting the streets and online retailers, it is worth being aware that some popular toys and gadgets that many of our children may request have certain safety concerns.

The toys which are causing particular concerns at the moment are those that can be connected to the internet or via bluetooth, such as the Furby Connect, I-Que Intelligent Robot, Toy-fi Teddy, and CloudPets cuddly toy. All of these look like fun, harmless toys and, most of the time, children will really enjoy what they can do, but it is important that parents are alert to some of the drawbacks of such toys.

The biggest concern is the fact that strangers may be able to access these toys via bluetooth or the internet and get the toy to say or do things, such as convince the child to go outside, or order numerous products online.
