Before retirement, I spent many years in the accounts department of a local photographic and printing company.

I was closely involved with St Andrew’s when my two children went through the school and benefited from the incredible support, teaching and opportunities they were given. Some years after they moved on, I had the privilege of becoming a governor and I really enjoy playing a part in the development of the school.

My name is Margaret O’Neill and I am a foundation governor at St Andrew’s Methodist Primary School. I attend Walkden Methodist Church and I am a managing trustee. I am involved in many aspects of church life, for example, I am the church treasurer. I also work with the young people who attend church.

On a personal level, I am married with two grown up children and two beautiful grandchildren. I was employed in the finance sector for 35 years and have experience in hospitality.

The reason I became a governor at St Andrew’s was to help strengthen links between the school and the church. I am passionate about children’s learning and their experiences. I have gained knowledge from the various areas I have worked or volunteered in and these enable me to support school in many areas of school family life. 

Length of Service: 21 Years at St Andrew’s.

I began teaching in 1989 at St Stephen and All Martyrs CE Primary School in Bolton. I was there for nine years teaching classes from Reception to Year 3.

In 1998 I moved to Hindley All Saints CE Primary School in Wigan, as deputy headteacher, teaching across the primary age range.

I became headteacher at St Andrew’s Methodist Primary School in 2003. In 2010, I gained the status of Local Leader of Education and supported a school in Manchester for two terms. For six years from 2010, I worked as executive headteacher of St Andrew’s Methodist and North Walkden primary schools. The collaboration between the two schools saw many benefits. In 2016, I returned to St Andrew’s as full time headteacher. It is a pleasure to work with governors who are committed to improving provision and opportunities for the children they serve.

I am a registered SIAMS inspector, which means I carry out inspections of faith schools for the National Society (Church of England and Methodist schools). I thoroughly enjoy this role as I get to magpie lots of wonderful ideas from primary schools across Manchester and beyond.

I have two grown up children, Ben and Jessica and a three year old granddaughter.  In my spare time I love being a granny, walking my dog, gardening, baking and holidays by the seaside! 

 

Length of Service: I started working within schools in September 2009 (St Andrew’s since September 23)

Previous to working within school settings I was a team leader within a bank, with the last role being a Mortgage team Leader.

I changed my career as at the time I had young children and working within a school helped with family life.  I quickly found that it was a career in which I loved.  My first role was as a school administrator, I worked my way up in order to become a School Business Manager within St Andrew’s.  I remember coming to look around the school before my interview and I immediately felt the warmth and family feel and knew it was a place in which I wanted to work. I was lucky to be selected.

I have two children both of which are now young adults.  In my spare time I love to travel and spend time with friends and family.

I feel privileged to work in such an amazing school with fantastic staff, governors and most important our amazing children. 

 

 

 

I attended St Andrews Methodist Primary School myself as a child, when it was at the very old school site that the church now stands on! I remember the new school being built and Princess Ann coming in a helicopter for the grand opening. You can just see the back of my head in the photo on the wall near the office! I even remember when Mr Halstead first started at the school! My three children attend the school now, although one of them will be leaving soon for High School! I work as a secretary for a small, local firm of solicitors and have been here eleven years now, after working in Manchester City Centre for many years. I still really appreciate being able to walk to work (even eleven years down the line).I don’t get much time for many hobbies really, but I love the simple things like watching films and TV, reading, spending time with family and getting together with friends. It is an absolute pleasure to have been voted one of the parent governors and I hope I can do everybody proud.
