The Very Hungry Caterpillar
For the past 2 weeks, Nursery have been reading Eric Carle’s story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have been sorting the different foods that he ate into the days of the week, using the first letter in each day to help us.
Also we have drawn our own very hungry caterpillars, and painted butterflies, exploring what will happen if we mix two colours of paint together.
We have been improving our fine motor skills by punching holes in leaves, as the hungry caterpillar made holes in leaves too.
All of this has helped us to understand the book and, on Friday, we even made up sentences and told the story to the grown ups in our classroom using pictures to help us.
Next week we are going to be changing The Very Hungry Caterpillar story to The Very Hungry Snail story. So, in preparation, we decided to find out what foods snails like to eat. We cut up different foods and observed which foods the snails enjoyed eating the most.
The staff can’t wait to hear the story that the children create!
