This term the children have been/are doing lots of work on the Mayans! First of all, a huge well done to your amazing Chichin Itza temples you all hand crafted! I am super impressed! I can tell there was a lot of time and effort spent on making those wonderful creations, so thank you! They are all displayed nicely in our classroom.
We have been doing lots of Mayan research and produced some excellent pieces of writing from newspaper articles to instructions on ‘How to keep the Mayans happy.’ The children learnt all about the masks the Mayans wore at special occasions, then had a go at designing some for themselves. Take a look…
As a class, we have done lots of work on the Mayan folktale ‘The Chocolate Tree’. The children thoroughly enjoyed this story and learnt all about the Mayan God’s Kukulkhan and the Night Jaguar. This then inspired the children to design their own Mayan gods that they would find in ‘Paradise’ using clay!
