Greater Manchester Police have recently made us aware of an issue involving children using the website Omegle.com or Omegle States (USA). It is an online chat room which needs no registration process whatsoever. The site matches you with a stranger, and you simply click and go to start chatting, and this includes video chat.
There were two separate incidents in June involving female pupils (aged 11 and 9) engaging in online sexual activity with older males, and this has been reported to police by parents.
At St Andrews, we are very keen to ensure our pupils use the internet safely and work closely with parents to ensure their children are safe. Please be aware of the Omegle.com site and similar sites, such as Omegle UK, as well as various associated apps such as ‘Chat for Omegle’, ‘Free Omegle Chat’, ‘Omeglers’, so that you can try to prevent your children from accessing them.

As always, if you want to speak to school about this issue or any other, you are welcome to either talk to your child’s class teacher or to me, Grace Thomas, the Family Support Worker. You can contact me through the school office
