As parents and carers know, good attendance and arriving to school on time is a vital step in helping our children to learn and to get the best out of their time at school. Our attendance target is 96%.
We are proactively looking at ways to support children and families meet this target. Over the next few weeks, you may see me from time to time standing at the school gates to chat to children and parents who arrive late. I will also be continuing our half termly ‘visiting days’ where, along with the Educational Welfare Officer, I will visit children absent on that day. This is to both understand absence and to provide support if needed. If you have any worries or questions about your child’s attendance, then please do not hesitate to contact me, Grace Thomas, through the school office.
Why is this so important?
Children with good attendance and punctuality are far more likely to reach their academic potential. It also helps children build good friendships and helps their self esteem and confidence.
- 90% attendance means your child has missed 4 whole weeks of school which is 100 hours of lessons
- A two week holiday in term time will reduce your child’s attendance to less than 95%
- Arriving 5 minutes late every day adds up to 3 days lost in a year
- Arriving 15 minutes late every day is equal to 2 weeks lost in a year
