Year 6 visit – Crucial Crew

Year 6 really enjoyed their trip to Salford Crucial Crew.

Crucial Crew is a multi-agency safety event aimed at Year 6 children designed to provide children with life skills that will enable them to keep themselves and others safe. It is generally accepted that children start to become more independent at this age and are often expected to cope increasingly on their own and deal with changes in their lives, such as a move to Secondary school.

The children visited workshops including the police, with a focus on staying safe online; in chat rooms and social media. The lifeguard service provided information about safety and water and NHS had an interesting game for the children to play, highlighting the effects of eating/drinking too much ‘hidden sugar’. St John’s Ambulance, showed the children how to move a person into the ‘recovery position’ while waiting for the emergency services. All in all, it was most informative and fun. All the children love ‘Crucial – Crewing’.
